A man police said was driving drunk killed another driver and injured two others in a crash Saturday.
Rene Berben, 25, of Deptford Township, has been charged with vehicular homicide. Authorities said that Berben was driving south on Route 41 in Deptford Township near the K-Mart. Investigators said Berben had an open container of beer in his car when he turned his vehicle into a Nissan sedan, which was traveling the same direction on the road.
Steven Kennedy, 29, of Runnemede, was driving the sedan. The impact of Berben's swerving truck pinned Kennedy into his car, and he died on the scene. Two others were passengers in the sedan, Elisha Bailey, 52, and Dwayne Pettit, 28, both of Glassboro. Both passengers survived and were taken to Cooper Medical Center in Camden. Authorities said that their injuries are not life threatening.
Berben's blood alcohol content indicated that he was intoxicated, investigators said. He was injured in the crash as well, and is currently also at Cooper Medical Center, under guard.
