A police chase of a stolen car in Newark ended in a fiery head-on crash early Sunday that injured two officers and a person in the car, police said.
The pursuit began shortly before midnight, when state police saw the car that had been reported stolen in Fairfield, Newark police said. The vehicle was being sought in connection with a recent a shooting and several robberies and carjackings in Essex County, police said.
Several law enforcement agencies and a Newark police helicopter took part in the pursuit, which ended when the car crashed head-on into an unmarked Newark police vehicle, police said.
Four people in the car — Richard D. Williams, 39, of Newark; Terrell Norris, 28, of Newark; Nakiah Burr, 19, of East Orange; and a 16-year-old girl — were captured at the scene.
Williams was charged with aggravated assault against a police officer and weapons charges. Police said he had a loaded .38 handgun.
The other three suspects are charged with receiving stolen property and resisting arrest.
It's not clear whether any of the suspects have lawyers.

The injured officers and Williams were all treated at a hospital. All were expected to survive their injuries.
