Prosecutors have cleared two Camden County policemen in the fatal shooting of a Camden man who allegedly aimed an air pistol at them during a confrontation last summer.
County prosecutors say an investigation determined the officers were legally justified to use deadly force against 33-year-old Oscar Camacho Jr. Authorities say Camacho was shot after he ignored orders to drop the weapon.
The shooting occurred after three police officers encountered Camacho on July 3.
Prosecutors say Camacho told a 911 dispatcher that he had been involved in multiple motor collisions and was armed with a gun. He also said he wanted to kill himself and intended to confront police.
The names of the officers who shot Camacho were not released.
State authorities reviewed the county investigation and agreed with its conclusion.
