NJ Town's Sole Large Grocery Store to Close

New Brunswick's sole large grocery store will close its doors before the end of the month.

The Fresh Grocer has told city officials it's just not doing the business it expected and will close on May 24. The company says fewer than 100 employees will be offered jobs at other Fresh Grocer locations.

Mayor Jim Cahill in a statement said city officials believed the experienced urban supermarket could provide residents with access to a variety of fresh and healthy foods. But Cahill said their success in the Philadelphia area did not translate to New Brunswick.

City officials say their top priority is finding another grocery store.
