NJ Man Charged With Sexual Assault of Patient

Authorities say a man has been charged with sexually assaulting a female patient at a New Jersey hospital.

The Asbury Park Press reports  that Michael Holland allegedly assaulted the woman in her hospital room at The Jersey Shore University Medical Center on May 10. Neptune Police Lt. Michael McGhee says Holland is not a hospital employee.

A criminal complaint described the patient as "mentally defective,'' a legal term for a person with a mental issue that makes them incapable of giving consent or understanding their conduct.

The 54-year-old Holland, with addresses in Neptune and Asbury Park, has been charged with aggravated sexual assault. A public defender representing him did not return messages seeking comment.

Holland is being held in the Monmouth County Jail on $200,000 bail.
