NE Extension Reopens After Tanker Crushes Car

A portion of the Pennsylvania Turnpike's Northeast Extension in suburban Philadelphia has reopened following a fatal crash involving a tanker truck.

Officials say one person is dead following the crash early Friday morning in Lower Salford Township, Montgomery County. Police say one vehicle had stopped on the shoulder and another motorist stopped to assist when the tanker struck both vehicles.

Authorities did not release the names of anyone involved in the collision.

The collision happened around 3 a.m. in the northbound lanes between the Lansdale and Quakertown exits. That stretch of the turnpike reopened around 11 a.m.
