A northeastern Pennsylvania woman is facing charges after her 4-year-old daughter fell from a third-floor window and was seriously injured.
Twenty-three-year-old Chelsie Elders of Carbondale is charged with reckless endangerment and felony child endangerment. She turned herself in Friday.
The girl remains hospitalized after Wednesday's fall with a broken rib, broken vertebrae and other internal injuries. Her condition has not been released.
Police were called to Elders' apartment the day before, when neighbors reported seeing her two children unattended.
Lackawanna County Children and Youth Services said they were investigating that incident when police were called again after the child fell.
The girl fell 18 feet into a pile of mulch.
Elders refused to comment outside court and directed inquiries to her lawyer but she declined to give the lawyer's name.
