A 30-year-old man serving a life sentence for the 2004 killing of his girlfriend has died in a suburban Philadelphia prison.
Graterford prison spokeswoman Wendy Shaylor said Micah Stewart was found dead in his cell around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Prison guards found Stewart during rounds and administered first aid, said the prison. Stewart was pronounced dead about 45 minutes after the guards found him.
The Montgomery County Coroner's Office would determine a cause of death.
Stewart was convicted in the killing of his 19-year-old girlfriend, Cortney Fry in Lancaster County. Prosecutors said Stewart pierced Fry's head with a screwdriver because he doubted he was the father of her child. Tests later showed that he was the father.
