Man Shoots Knife-Wielding Man in Pathmark Parking Lot: Police

An argument over a man looking at another man for no reason led to a shooting in the parking lot of a Philadelphia Pathmark, according to investigators.

A 37-year-old man and a 38-year-old man were both in the parking lot of the Pathmark store on the 8700 block of Frankford Avenue at 5:38 p.m. Sunday. An argument between the two men began when the 38-year-old man began to stare at the 37-year-old.

"It appears the victim and the shooter had a verbal dispute over the shooter looking at the victim for no reason," said a Philadelphia Police spokesman.

The 37-year-old man then allegedly pulled out a hunting knife with a 13-inch blade and threatened to cut the 38-year-old. After the 38-year-old man told him repeatedly to drop his knife, the 37-year-old allegedly charged at him.

The 38-year-old man then pulled out a Glock 9mm handgun and opened fire, according to investigators. The 37-year-old was struck once in the groin area and dropped his knife, police said.

The 37-year-old was taken to Aria Torresdale Hospital where he is currently in critical condition.

According to police, the shooter had a license to carry a concealed firearm. No charges have been filed but police continue to investigate.
