A southern New Jersey man has been charged in a street race that killed his friend over the weekend.
Twenty-one-year-old Lateef Scarlett of Clayton drowned early Sunday after his 1992 BMW splashed into a pond.
John Dingle Jr., also 21 and from Clayton, survived when his 1999 Honda slammed into a tree nearby. He had minor injuries.
Prosecutors announced Tuesday that he had been charged with disregarding a stop sign, reckless driving, racing on a highway and driving while intoxicated.
Dingle did not immediately return a phone message Wednesday.
