A northwestern Pennsylvania volunteer firefighter has died after he was hit while reporting to a vehicle accident.
The Fox Township Volunteer Fire Department in Elk County says 58-year-old Blaine "Skeeter" Wildnauer Jr. died when he responded to the crash about 10:45 a.m. Saturday.
The Elk County coroner's office has ruled his death by natural causes, without offering specifics. Details were being withheld at the request of his family.
Wildnauer had been a volunteer with the fire company for 40 years.
Wildnauer's death is only the second in the line of duty by a firefighter in the 75-year history of the Fox Township company. Another firefighter died of a medical emergency on a call in 1956.
