The roofs of two Narberth businesses collapsed Wednesday morning after a fire tore through the commercial properties, forcing officials to close a busy roadway in Lower Merion Township.
The blaze broke out in a storefront -- the future home of Main Line Cycles -- along the 900 block of Montgomery Avenue, near Price Avenue, in the suburban Philly neighborhood around 4:30 a.m., authorities said.
The flames spread to another nearby business, Fast Signs, as firefighters continued to battle the fire, officials said.
Montgomery Avenue was shut down in both directions between Old Gulph Road and Brookhurst Avenue fas crews worked to contain the blaze.
Drivers were diverted onto neighborhood roads and then directed to Lancaster Avenue (Route 30). Officials began allowing one lane of traffic to pass in each direction around 8:30 a.m., although motorists should expect some residual delays.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation, although Lower Merion Fire Chief Charles McGarvey Sr. indicated it may have been an electrical fire.
Heavy smoke and flames were first spotted near electrical lines, McGarvey said.
There are no reported injuries.
