Overheated roofing tar sparked a fire at a New Castle County, Delaware roofing shingle plant.
The fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. Thursday inside a 5-story tank containing the tar at Iko Manufacturing Inc. at 120 Hay Road in Edgemoor, county dispatchers tell NBC10.
Flames could be seen coming from the top of the large silver cylindrical tank.
A spokesman for the plant said workers called in firefighters after temperatures began to rise inside the tank. Heavy smoke was also billowing from the storage unit, he said.
The plant has been evacuated as a precaution, officials said. No injuries have been reported.
Crews are continuing to spray water on the tank until it cools down, the spokesman said.
