At least two houses were swept up in a five-alarm blaze that broke out in northern New Jersey Monday afternoon.
Fire officials say that the blaze broke out on 34th Street in Bayonne at about 12:30 p.m. and quickly escalated to five alarms.
The fire chief on the scene said ice and mounds of snow made it challenging to fight the fire.
Chopper 4, first on the scene, showed heavy smoke and flames eminating from two houses as several fire trucks and other units responded. The houses sit on a street tightly packed with narrow row houses.
Two families have been displaced in the fire, including the Mulcahy family, who's lived in their home for over 50 years. Everything is gone, said Denise Mulachy, but no one was hurt.
"Everybody is safe, my grandchildren, we weren't home," she said. "It didn't start at our house, but it got the most damage."
The cause of the blaze is unknown.
