Ex-Church Volunteer Faces Federal Detention Hearing for Child Porn

A former western Pennsylvania youth pastor faces a federal court detention hearing and arraignment on charges he possessed child pornography, some with adults performing sex acts with infants.

A federal magistrate in Pittsburgh must decide whether 45-year-old Andrew Patterson, of Monroeville, is a danger to the community or too much of a risk to flee prosecution to allow him to remain free until trial. Otherwise, he'll stay in jail.

Officials with the Living Waters Family Worship Center in Irwin say Patterson resigned his volunteer youth counselor position hours before his arrest in October.

Patterson was first charged by state authorities after an undercover detective allegedly traced porn he found on the Internet to Patterson's computer.

Federal prosecutors took over the case and Patterson now faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
