Delaware State University officials say three people were shot at a student event.
The shooting occurred around 8 p.m. Saturday during an annual University-sanctioned student Greek cookout event, according to DSU president Harry L. Williams.
Officials said the three people were taken to Kent General Hospital in Dover and are stable. Their names have not been released, and DSU spokesman Carlos Holmes said he didn't know whether the people were Delaware State students.
The shooting occurred while Field Day was taking place on the school's campus. Over 1000 students attended the outdoor event.
Both a source and a witness told NBC10 a fight broke out during the event which led to the shooting.
"One guy was on the ground bleeding out," said the witness, who did not want to be identified. "The other guy was limping."
Sources told NBC10 police tried to get a large crowd of students out of the area and forced them away from the school's student center. Multiple police choppers also arrived at the campus. One source described the scene as "controlled chaos."
