Authorities say a central Pennsylvania man drowned while trying to swim across the Delaware River in eastern Pennsylvania.
Officials say 41-year-old Jason Moser of Myerstown was in the Pike County area of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area when he went under at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Park superintendent John Donahue said Moser's body was recovered about two hours later in 10 feet of water in an area known as Shad Rocks between Bushkill Access and Smithfield Beach.
Officials said he wasn't wearing a life jacket, as visitors are advised to do while swimming, floating, fishing or boating on the river.
Donahue said the Delaware's current is strong and swift, and the depth can change suddenly — "often going from knee-deep to over your head in a single step."
