Crane Fire Leaves 1 Hurt

A crane caught fire at the Philadelphia shipyard this morning leaving one person hurt.

The large blue crane caught fire around 7:30 a.m. along Kitty Hawk Avenue at the Aker Philadelphia Shipyard in South Philadelphia.

Capt. Clifford Gilliam said units reported smoke inside the crane and one worker was transported from the scene.

The Philadelphia Fire Department didn't reveal the extent of that worker's injuries.

Firefighters responded to the scene and tried to bring the blaze under control. As SkyForce10 hovered overhead you could see crews on the crane.

The fire was brought under control around 8:30 a.m.

The shipyard employs about 1,200 workers. Currently product tankers and other products are being produced at the riverside facility.
