A 4-year-old boy became the latest victim of gun violence in Philadelphia Monday.
Someone shot into the back of a minivan as a 30-year-old father loaded the the child inside the vehicle outside their home along the 2700 block of Daly Terrace in the Philadelphia Housing Authority's Wilson Park community in South Philadelphia around 7:20 p.m., Philadelphia Police said.
The child was rushed to CHOP where he was listed in critical but stable condition with a gunshot wound to the stomach while his dad went to the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania where he was in stable condition with a graze wound to his head and a gunshot wound to his back, according to police.
A 9-year-old girl, who was also in the van, wasn't hit by any of the nine shots fired, police said.
The boy's father was the intended target but the motive for the shooting wasn't known, according to police.
The gunman, described as a man in his 20s who was wearing dark clothing, ran off on foot.
"Our children shouldn't have to grow up living like this," said recently-elected State Representative Jordan Harris, who lives nearby.
Police believe this shooting may be connected to a murder on December 1.
