Chester Police Officer Avery Freeman tore a muscle while he was on duty, and died after surgery from complications, according to the Chester Police department.
Freeman, 49, hurt tore a quadriceps tendon during a minor altercation while he was on duty on March 31st.
After being bedridden for a month, Freeman had surgery. After his surgery, he suffered a pulmonary embolism, according to a detective with the department.
Freeman, who was with the department for nearly 15 years, will be given a full Honor Guard burial.
Freeman was a decorated officer who had received awards for valor, exceptional service and a lifesaving award.
His viewing will be on Sunday, May 13 at 3 p.m. at St. Luke Community Christian Church at 4th and Central Avenue in Chester. His funeral will be held at the church on Monday, May 14 at 9:00 a.m.
