It’s one of the things local broadcast students look forward to all year.
The Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia held its 13th Annual Broadcast Symposium on the morning of Nov. 1 at the NBC10 and Telemundo62 station in Bala Cynwyd. The event encourages area college students to experience, first-hand, how a major market television station operates and how to land that first job.
Nearly 70 eager college students filled the station’s City Line Avenue studio to learn more about the television news industry. WCAU and WWSI staff gave advice and answered questions through an active panel discussion.
The panel was moderated by M. Larry Litwin, APR, formerly of KYW Newsradio. Panel speakers included NBC10 anchor and reporter Rosemary Connors, NBC10 content producer Andrea Berry, Telemundo62 content producer Ana Luna, NBC10 director Veestus Beamon, NBC10 technical director, Tekla Helfrich, promotions writer/producer Culley McGuire and WSSJ Radio’s former owner Pat Delsi.
Following the panel discussion, the students toured the studios, newsroom, control room and the Digital Operations Center. Students were also given the opportunity to sit at the NBC10 anchor desk and read a sample news promotion.
