Authorities say a man was struck and killed by a southbound train in North Philadelphia.
The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority says the victim was struck at 7:20 p.m. Saturday between the Melrose Park and Fern Rock stations.
Police identified the victim as 49-year-old Daniel Gallagher of the Lawndale section of the city and said he was wearing headphones and walking on the tracks in the same direction as the train. Police say the engineer saw Gallagher and sounded the horn and applied the emergency brake.
The accident and investigation interrupted regional rail service for hours on lines serving the airport, Lansdale, Doylestown, Warminster and West Trenton.
