An ugly case of animal abuse was discovered in the Bridesburg section of Northeast Philadelphia Wednesday night.
"Whoever did this is a sick individual," George Bengal with the PSPCA said. "This was definitely deliberately done."
A man walking his dog found a small dog hanging from a tree on the 5600 block of Tacony Street, according to the Pennsylvania SPCA. The dog was dead and apparently someone had shoved a stick down its throat, officials said.
"It appears that the dog’s been out there for at least two days -- it’s starting to decompose," said Bengal.
Due to the extreme heat the dog was already badly decomposed, officials said.
The breed of the dog wasn’t immediately known.
Animal officers are working to figure out who could have killed the pup.

They were also investigated the "DKB 08" tag that was spray-painted on the branch the dog was hanging from to see if it's connected.
Anyone with info on the case should contact the PSPCA at 215-426-6300.
