The Phillies put a different spin on the traditional ballpark frank this year by having fans pick the “Signature Hot Dog” of Citizens Bank Park.
Voting opened Monday on Phillies.com, as fans picked between three all-beef hot dog combos -- South Philly Dog, Olde Philadelphia Dog and CBP Summer Dog.
We asked Citizens Bank Park’s executive chef Glenn Richmond to describe the dogs.
“They’re unique,” he said.
Don’t worry; he explained what each one has to offer.
The South Philly dog features broccoli rabe, spicy roasted peppers and sharp provolone on a crusty Italian roll.
“The South Philly dog definitely speaks of South Philadelphia,” Richmond said.
The Olde Philly is topped with Amish pepper hash, dill pickle and yellow mustard on a poppy seed roll
“It’s kind of our salute to (Amish pepper hash).”
The Summer dog goes a different route.
“It’s a little spicy with tomato and pickle relish and ancho pepper sauce on a pretzel roll,” said Richmond.
He wouldn’t pick a favorite to win -- that will be left up to the fans.
Fans will get their chance to try each hot dog creation before the start of the Phillies On-Deck series games next month against the Pirates.
Voting closes on April 4 with the winner to be revealed at the Phillies’s home opener on April 12.
And, the Phillies could even sell a vegetarian dog version of the winning creation, officials said.
